It is not a black and white science so we have to be careful to whom we listen to and whom take advice from. We have all seen a movie that got a high rating and thought it was awful. I thought “Fargo” was one of the 10 worst movies I have ever see but obviously Hollywood did not think that. I take criticism with a grain of salt. Who is giving it and why? I had a young director tell me something very hurtful so I asked him why and he said I reminded him of an Aunt he disliked. Not a very good reason to publicly yell at me. Get a positive mentor who can listen to you and you can trust. We each act and interpret a character in a film a different way. That is our ability. If you did your best and they citicise you ask WHY? I come from an analytical background so they better have good justification or I just smile and walk away–praying for them all the way! Arguing solves nothing and just makes it worse.

Yes, Rod, that can definitely be rough. Parents can also be very protective and worried about their kids trying to pursue a career in this crazy, unpredictable business. Based on what you’ve said. I would recommend to keep working with your acting coaches and trust them if you like them. A great coach can see beyond what you think to places that you don’t see. A great acting class will definitely help in personal development and communication as well. That may help it become clear about the best way to talk to your mom about your dreams. The main thing is that if you have this dream, don’t give it up!

Best of luck ot you, Rod.

And gets you down,a lot of the time. I find it hard to tell her to stop meddling, she has not even ever supported me in anything, I don’t have the heart to tell her, some acting coaches claim I have screen presence and afraid to get out there, I am very optimistic about my future , but my mum keeps on knocking me down and steals my thnder and it takes a long time to get up again, what do you think I should do thanks
