Yes it’s amazing to see what the characters write.

But I’m learning everyday. I have 3 written screenplays and one script plus 3 shorts. I have anither screenplay n the early stages. Thank you for your article. You help everyone with your words.

What a great story about your Mom! Not too long ago I complimented one of my clients on his vocabulary even in his erotic comedy. His writing really stood out because of his use of the language and vocabulary, used in a very seamless way. He told me something similar — that his Dad used to do the same thing — Grab that dictionary!

I also like to review something and take notes till I really get it and it sticks. Great share, Aletha!

My research and studying of the craft comes by the way of elementary school lessons. And my mom, who whenever you ask the meaning of a word, would quip, “grab the dictionary and look it up and read it to me.” Plot, theme, character arcs, etc. I write the words out and the meanings and read them over and over until it sticks.
