I’ve written four screenplays in the suspense mystery genre and now I am ready to submit to a representative of the film industry.

Hi Bill,

Most of the very top, elite literary agents and managers and most studios do have a policy not to take unsolicited query letters, that’s true. However, once in a while, one slips through the cracks at some of those companies. But more importantly…

There are dozens and dozens of smaller production companies and literary managers — even a few lit agents, who will for sure look at new material, or a least the query letter and email queries.

It sounds like you have made some efforts and not had a lot of luck… No question that it is not easy. That’s why it’s very important for every screenwriter to try to optimize every single thing about marketing a script.

Your point is also well taken that there are tens of thousands of scripts being submitted to Hollywood every year. A lot of writers don’t truly realize how much competition there is. So thanks for the reminder.

They receive thousands, or more, because it’s too easy to “blast!” An estimated 70,000 scripts a year are registered with WGAw and with each one having a “shelf life” of, say, five years, the number in play is mind-boggling!

If you have a secret way of getting a script into a (legit) manager’s hands, you’ll make a fortune! ;o)
