I am a copyright lawyer. This statement is erroneous and ridiculous. There are no percentage rules.

This is untrue, and I am a seasoned copyright lawyer. Proof of the date of writing is highly important evidence. Both WGA registration and Copyright Office registration do this equally well. The difference is WGA registration is for 7 years ,(although paid can be gotten) and the Copyright office registration(although more expensive) lasts forever.
Never waste time or money mailing to yourself. It rarely stands up in court. Ther idea is a layperson fiction.

I f some newbie writer asked me for advice, I probably would offer the same suggestions (based on the fact that I am not a lawyer) and wish them best of luck. As in any lawsuit, your success is only as good as your supporting evidence bearing mind that evidence is never to be equated with proof. But hey, when dealing with rogue governments who might be suspected of using chemical weapons to quell any dissidents, unless there is an actual confession, the totality of “evidence” might just be enough to reach a guilty verdict.

That is very, very true! I have analyzed literally countless scripts where the writer was not quite clear enough on their theme to articulate it, but when I start asking them questions and we discuss it, they always end up seeing what is already there!

It is truly a phenomenon that I have seen over and over… The writer tells their story and it’s driven by something deep inside. Only when you start really crafting your story and bringing the left brain to doing that crafting does the theme reveal itself. My favorite part of doing a script analysis for my clients is guiding them to discover the deeper story they have been telling all along.
