Making a movie is not a bad idea but it does take a big commitment. However, if you focus more on shorts, then you’ll still demonstrate your skills, have a lot more of your samples available and will have something you can use to make a short film

Not so much to see my characters come to life, but because the short film is becoming an art form itself….. sometimes the length makes no difference if it is a good story to tell!

I’m connected on email/Facebook with creative local group in Corpus Christi who do a 7 day projects -yearly . They are STUFF,South Texas Underground Film Festival. They are also linked in with underground film going on in Austin. The Austin folks went to SXSW last year. I have some ideas for at least one short, a comic/ horror story that could be cheap to get done. Have a couple scripts that I HAVE to get coverage on, want to SELL. But alas, I am like Ken. Things like taxes and giant vet bills happened around here.

Hi Jeff,
Hats off to you for being such a go-getter…. My question to you is why are you producing it yourself if you have interest from so many agents and heavy-hitters?

Yes, it’s totally great to produce it yourself if you have been unable to get major interest and you believe in it… But if you have some power players interested, it’s a great opportunity to get connected and team up with those heavy-hitters who also have connections for distribution.

If you are committed to doing it yourself and going through Kickstarter, I think working with the Ad Execs is a GREAT idea. Once you have a strong script, so much of it comes down to marketing…. So I think you’re on the right track for that pathway…. One thing to keep in mind even when you manage to raise the money and get it produced is “How will you use it to launch your career?”

Producing a film independently is not enough…. Getting Domestic Theatrical Distribution is one of the real deal.

Love all your little tips and guidance, they have been very helpful. About 4 weeks ago I finished the first draft of a feature length script. I am going to shoot it myself as an Independent. So far I have a lot of interest from some agents and several heavy hitters in the industry. I have been saving all the emails. Over 70 pages of emails in 3 weeks.

Found an established co-writer and we are currently working on the re-write together. I am doing that and putting on the hat of Producer. Working with two retired Ad Executives to launch an online campaign to build the audience and start raising funds on Kickstarter.

Do you have any maps from here? Looks like the beginning of an incredible journey!

I appreciate your help.. Jeff
